Why give?

Connecticut Scuba Academy's primary mission is to train scuba divers, catering to recreational and professional divers. However, our most rewarding program, and arguably our most important function, is our outreach to high schools in disadvantaged communities. We provide opportunities these students would likely never encounter elsewhere. While city funding helps, it rarely covers the full cost of certifications that would otherwise be financially out of reach for these students. Beyond certification, we strive to integrate these students into local dive events and international expeditions. Our successful partnership with Sound School in New Haven allows senior research divers to join us annually on an expedition to Bonaire for reef renewal projects. We actively support student fundraising efforts and offset costs using funds generated from our other programs. Furthermore, Connecticut Scuba Academy is committed to fostering a stronger diving community by offering free monthly pool time and instruction from our professional staff to all divers. This philosophy reflects our core belief: by cultivating better divers, we protect our underwater environment.

Giving FAQs

  • Connecticut Scuba Academy is an all-volunteer 501c3 charitable organization. Our primary mission is underwater Environmental Education from recreational scuba diving to scientific research

  • Through our targeted programs, the Academy uses your donations to open doors for high school students. We reduce financial barriers by offsetting training expenses and providing essential equipment, allowing students to explore the underwater world. Donations also enable participation in local dive events and international expeditions, offering invaluable hands-on experience in marine conservation and research. Beyond this, the Academy provides a valuable service to all certified divers: free monthly pool time with experienced instructors, ensuring they can maintain their skills and passion for diving.

  • Yes, you can direct your donation to a specific program that resonates with you!

    • General Donations: Funds will be allocated to one of our core programs, such as those described in question two.

    • High School Programs: You can contribute to our overall high school education initiatives, or designate your gift to a specific school: Sound School (New Haven), Hillhouse High School (New Haven), or Marine Science High School (Groton).

    • Summer Scuba Camp: Support our 3-week summer program at Camp Workcoeman in New Hartford.

    • International Expeditions: Sponsor a student's journey, either fully or partially. For many, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience international travel and contribute to vital research.

    • Adopt-a-Student: Provide comprehensive support, sponsoring a high school student through their Open Water training (junior year), research training (senior year), and participation in the Bonaire Expedition.

    • Pool Sponsorship:  Underwrite pool time, either partially or for a full weekend, and receive recognition in your name.
