Locate the Course List: Open our online calendar and scroll down past the main calendar grid. You will see a list of available courses listed below it.
View the Schedule: Find the month you want to take the practical part of course and click the Book button. This will open up the full list of dates.
🗓️ What to Expect For Each Session
When you click book, you will see a list of dates for your chosen month. Here is what each session in that series represents:
Session 1 & 2 (Friday Nights): Classroom Theory (Parts A & B) — Hamden Location
Session 3 (Saturday Morning): Classroom Theory (Part C) — Hamden Location
Session 4 (Saturday Afternoon): Pool Session (Part D) — Meriden YMCA
Session 5 (Sunday Afternoon): Pool Session (Part E) — Meriden YMCA
Session 6 (Following Saturday): Final Pool / Open Water (Part F) — Hillhouse HS
Pool 1: Foundations & Adaptation
Pool Session 2: Stress Management & Rescue
Time: [Start Time] – [End Time] (Total Duration: 4 Hours 15 Min) Arrive: 15 minutes prior for mandatory team gear offloading. This session is designed to build confidence under pressure. After setting up gear, we focus on emergency procedures, including sharing air with a buddy, simulating emergency swimming ascents, and managing cramps or tired divers. The second half is dedicated to comfort, challenging you to swim without a mask and remove and replace your scuba unit underwater to ensure you can handle any situation. We finish with a team breakdown and van load-out.

Logistics: Students assist in unloading demo gear from the van.

Detailed walkthrough of the skills to be performed in Pool 1.

Team load-out of gear to the van.

Focus: The Internal World (Medical & Planning)
0:00 - 1:00: Physiology Deep Dive.
Air Spaces: Anatomy of the ear/sinus. Valsalva vs. Frenzel equalization.
The Lungs: Over-expansion injuries and prevention.
Gas Absorption: Decompression Sickness (DCS) vs. Nitrogen Narcosis.
Respiration: CO2 buildup, skip-breathing, and the panic cycle.
Theory A: Physics
Theory A: Ocean Dynamics
Focus: The External World (Physics & Environment)

Tides, currents, surge, and global water movement.
Marine life identification and responsible interaction.
1:15 - 2:00: Physics Deep Dive.
Pressure: Atmospheric vs. Gauge vs. Absolute.
Boyle’s Law: Pressure/Volume relationships (Squeezes & Equalization mechanics).
Buoyancy: Archimedes’ Principle and how it affects your trim.
Sensory Changes: Light refraction and sound transmission.
